Summer “Naturalist” Horse Camp for Kids ages 6 – 17

will be offered again in July and August 2017

Looking for something fun (and educational!) for your kid to do while they’re on summer vacation?  Send them to Listening Horse Ranch for a week of fun with horses in the great outdoors!  Terri Scallon will help your child or youth discover the life of a Naturalist.  How? By learning about nature and how all life is interconnected through the basics of natural horsemanship. Throughout the week your child will participate in horse care and horsemanship, explore the natural surroundings through the eyes of the horse and other farm animals, and learn about local animal and plant life. We’ll have fun activities like scavenger hunts, self-created obstacle courses to lead the animals through, games with the horses along with artsy-craftsy stuff and journaling, so that your child will be able to practice social constructs  of respect, responsibility, boundaries and empathy and enhance key life skills that relate to relationships and choices and consequences that will ripple out in positive ways for the rest of their lives.

This will build up to going on a trail ride!  Yipee!  And on the very last day the group will put on their own unique version of a “Horse Show” where they can showcase what they’ve learned to their family and friends!  Whether your child is shy or cautious, bold or outgoing, we will meet them where they are at and give them tools they can use to bring a natural balance to their living.  The natural world has a lot to teach us and it generates learning that takes place in body, mind and spirit.  That’s why at Listening Horse Ranch we say with confidence that Equine Facilitated Learning is truly “Learning That Lasts.”

Group size: 6 to 12 participants

Cost: $495. per student, some funding may be available for those who qualify

Call Terri at 604 885 6777 to book a space for your child!

Power Tools for Living: An Experiential Learning Program for Children and AdolescentsA ground based group program through a series of 5 group Sessions

Based on the work of Robert G. Magnelli, Ph.D. and Nancy Magnelli, B.S., R.N.

With over 25 years of experience working with groups of children and adolescents, the Magnellis realized it was the group work with horses as therapeutic partners that made the most significant and lasting changes in the lives of their clients.

“We saw the incredible power of the horse to open hearts, give clear, relevant, truthful feedback to actions and attitudes, and give unconditional acceptance in the presence of emotional congruence, on the inside and the outside.”

Based on their experience and research we offer an Equine Facilitated Learning program that enhances the healthy constructs of social and emotional intelligence under the following categories:

Respect

Responsibility

Relationship Skills

Boundaries

Empathy

Choices and Consequences

Tracy Gray (Equine Professional) and Terri Scallon (Mental Health Professional) will be working with the principles of this program to bring these life skills to children and youth.  We invite you to call them directly or to bring this information to an agency that might be able to assist you in accessing funding for this program, such as your school, physician or the Ministry for Child and Family Development.  A component of Therapeutic Riding will be incorporated for those who are interested and Tracy Gray is a qualified vaulting instructor.

$250 per student  (ask about funding options available)

Private/individual Sessions available also.
We will work with you and other interested families to offer this program at times that are suitable to the group.  Please contact us and let us know your availability.

Connecting with Divine Consciousness

Will be offered again in July or August 2017!

Group event (limited to 10)

We are hard-wired to deeply connect with nature and when we do, we are revitalized by the Source that gives life to all – but how often to we give ourselves the chance to really experience this?

Come breathe the fresh air, walk the forest trails, amble along the beach, spend time with our horses, goats, and dogs. Eat fresh garden vegetables and farm fresh eggs – all organic, of course. Experience guided meditations that connect us with our deepest self – the self that is one with everything. Listen to the wisdom of spiritual masters from all faiths who have walked the earth and take time to reflect and journal. And for a special, magical evening,  join in chanting and sacred drumming under the stars in the presence of the horses, led by our holistic healing partners.

As well, each day you will have a one-on-one session with our qualified Spiritual Director and the horses so that you can privately experience the Wisdom of the Horse.

Come rejuvenate yourself in body, mind and spirit and reconnect with the Divine within.

Cost: $495. Cdn. per person

All faith perspectives that are based in Divine consciousness are honoured. We ask that participants respect the beliefs of others.

Private Session:  Finding Clarity of Purpose: Making Difficult Decisions

Life sometimes asks us to make decisions that aren’t easy. This workshop will focus on gaining clarity, whether it relates to matters of the heart, workplace dynamics or life direction.

Since horses mirror what we are feeling they help us see what we sometimes cannot. And since horses don’t lie, they will let us know when we are making the right decision for ourselves.

Our experienced therapist and her equine companions will guide you through a process that will not only help you with the decision you face now, but will also equip you with tools to face other important life choices in the future. If you have an important decision to make, give yourself the gift of time to discern what is right for you. Let the horses lead you to your authentic self and uncover the life you are meant to live.

$175. Cdn.

Call or email us to book a personalized time of equine-facilitated therapy focused on life direction and choice. 604 885 6777

If our Log Cabin is booked, there are many lovely, unique and trusted local B&B’s available on the Sunshine Coast.

Artsy?

On your visit to the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia you can take a Purple Flag tour of the sites of our fabulous local artists or visit our art galleries. You might choose to get your groove on and attend one of our many jazz festivals, chill at the Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival, or sweat to the beat of an Afro-Cuban-Funk band at the Roberts Creek Community Hall. If you are a bibliophile the very popular Festival of the Written Arts takes place every August where leading authors come to speak and engage with the audience.

Holistic Partners

Along with our Horse Assisted Therapy experience, at additional cost, we can put together a unique healing retreat package and create a tailor-made time of insight and renewal in accordance with your needs and desires.

The Horse Assisted Therapy we do at Listening Horse Ranch is one of the many holistic healing modalities available here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Give us a call and we will tell you about the other holistic practitioners we are able to engage to package a multi-dimentional healing experience for you unlike any other. Choose from a wide range of massage therapies and energy work to help further integrate your equine learning experience.

In addition, Terri knows many of the Spiritual Practitioners on the Sunshine Coast.  Among them are a Tibetan Buddhist lama who lived and studied with the Dalai Lama, an aboriginal teacher and sacred water pourer who can lead you in a sweat lodge experience, or sacred drummers and sacred sound musicians. Terri, BTW, was ordained in the United Church of Canada 20 years ago and is presently the minister of the very friendly congregation of Gibsons United Church. Naturally, she is happy to offer spiritual direction in the Christian faith which has a long-standing, but somewhat unknown, tradition of mysticism and ancient wisdom.

Terri honours all spiritual teachings and especially enjoys the parallel teachings of love and compassion found in all faiths.

Outdoorsy?

If you enjoy the outdoors you can go for a horseback ride or on an adventure tour of hiking, cycling, kayaking, sailing, boating or fishing. In late July the Gibsons annual Sea Cavalcade parade followed by a street dance and fireworks are a favourite happening. In late August there’s the very unique Higgeldy-Piggeldy parade in Roberts Creek that anyone can be in (even you!) and ends with a day of local musicians playing at the beach mandala surrounded by artisans’ booths, organic food vendors, face-painting and art activities for kids.  For a quiet day outside you might relax at any of the beaches along the coast.  In the winter months Dakota Ridge is 20 minutes up the mountain behind us where there is tobogganing, snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing in pristine snow.  We also have ice arenas and swimming pools in Gibsons and Sechelt for indoor fun. There really is so much to enjoy here on the Sunshine Coast – one of the most scenic areas of Canada. We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful place.
