WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EQUINE FACILITATED LEARNING AND EQUINE FACILITATED THERAPY?

Equine Facilitated Learning generally refers to any experience where one learns something which is of practical value to us, such as a life skill like self-confidence.  It is generally something observable which we can measure.   For example, we can measure improved self-confidence by the number of times one exhibits confident and assertive behaviour.

Equine Facilitated Therapy refers to learning that takes place internally and is not so easily measured.  This kind of learning yields experiences of insight through greater self-awareness.  A therapeutic experience involves such things as gaining a better understanding of unresolved feelings, seeing from a new perspective, making meaning of a traumatic event, having an emotional release, integrating feelings and new insights, feeling a stronger sense of self, getting clarity on an issue, coming to understand the expectations and yearnings of self and others, and the many other ways one can have an experience of personal transformation.
